A NOVEL IDEA:     NATIONAL LEVEL MONTHLY ART CONTEST
                                          "FIRST TIME IN INDIA"

   ************************************************************************

“Talent-hunt” seems to have come of age now....with various organisations taking it upon themselves to bring out the latent talents and skills of a hugely talented populace. While the electronic media is mainly focussing on performing arts, scouting for talents in other disciplines of art is being shouldered by many organisations which are far, far away from the glitz and glamour of “lights, camera, action...”!!!

“National level Monthly Art Contest”, organised by Shree Chakrapani Fine Arts and Educational Trust, Mangalore, is one such programme which is striving hard to identify talented student artists (Drawing and Painting) from every nook and corner of India. According to the organisers, this idea is the first of its kind in our country and is going to revolutionise the world of art. The program has a noble mission of introducing these artists to the whole of India, as the contests are being conducted at national level.

The first season of this program is underway from 23rd Feb 2011 and will go on upto 25th Dec 2014. Once students become a part of this programme, they can send their entries to the Contest by post for 12 months. National Level, On-the-Spot Contest will be held at the end of the season at Mangalore based on the selections made out of the monthly contests. “Response to this programme is moderate but is definitely picking up”, says Mr. Suresh K Pandavarakallu, the President of the Trust and the Director of Shree Chakrapani School of Art.

Apart from this unique programme, the Trust has been very actively involved in organising Art Competitions and Summer Camps since its establishment in 2003. Annual “Chiguru Chitrakala Pradarshana/Spardhe”, since 2004 and “Chakrapani Kala Prashasti”, once in two years for students of Fine Arts, since 2006, both at State Level, have been benchmarks that the Trust has created in the field. The trust also conducts South Zone Level drawing Competitions periodically. “Lalitha Kalamrutha”, a monthly magazine in Kannada, dedicated for the promotion of Drawing and Painting, is another big contribution of the Trust to the field.

With the availability of such committed platforms, time is not far when we Indians can pride ourselves of some truly world-class artists...Picassos’ of tomorrow are being unearthed....right here, in Mangalore!
